Usually, I'm doing a half commute into work -parking the car at Weston Fire Station 2, Massachusetts -and cycling the rest of the way into work. This works out to be about 11.2 miles into work, 11.5 miles back. Cycling all the way into work, it is about 23.7 miles each way.

A note on the photos: clearly some aren't the best in the world, so please excuse my photography as I attempted to take some from the bike, and others when I was in a hurry.

The following are 46 images that captured my commute from work to Weston on Wednesday 15th October at around 5:00pm. Here is a map showing where the photos were taken:

First, my bike; it's an old model Specialized Hard Rock with trekking bars from Nashbar, and a 9 speed drivechain with Deore derailleurs, a cheap Nashbar mtb crank and SRAM Centera shifters I bought from ebay. I found the frame (without components) in a scrapyard in Millis, Massachusetts, and paid $4 for it -a bargain! Recently it has gone to the UK and was used to tour the Yorkshire Dales.

Photo 1: Setting Off; a slight uphill to one of the few major roads I have to cross -Route 2 -Route 2 spans the length of Massachusetts.

Photo 2: Traffic lights at Route 2

Photo 3: Hard to tell, but a nice downhill after crossing Route 2 and then this uphill to Lincoln centre.

Photos 4,5 and 6: these are some of the views as I cycle down the hill into Lincoln Centre.

Photos 7 and 8: After passing through Lincoln, I take a left onto this delightful road. The tree colours are gorgeous at the moment.

Photos 9,10 and 11: Continuing on this road, I eventually bear right.....

Photos 12,13,14,15 and 16: This stretch of road is beautiful in the early morning when oftentimes there is a thin veil of mist on the grassland at one side. Of all roads, this reminds me of English countryside the most.

Photos 17,18,19,20, 21 and 22:
After the road leaves the grassy area, it wends it way nicely down to Route 117, the second busy road I have to cross. I tried to take some pictures of the sort of houses I pass -it's pretty much all a nice gentle downhill grade here.

Photo 23: Route 117, no nice traffic lights here! I go straight across.

Photo 24 and 25: whereupon I am greeted by a short uphill (funny in the photo, it somehow looks more severe than it really is!)

Photos 26,27 and 28: an undulating road, going into the town of Weston, supposedly the wealthiest town in Massachusetts.

Photo 29: About to take a left to go to Weston town centre.

Photos 30,31 and 32: Weston centre. It's at this point you may have noticed I pretty much have the roads to myself except once I get to Weston where there is some traffic. Weston centre, given it's a wealthy town, really isn't that nice or picturesque!

Photos 33, 34 and 35: About to cross Route 20, leaving Weston

Photos 36 and 37: Going by Weston Public Library and School offices. Almost back at the car!

Photo 38: I go down a hill towards Weston Reservoir

Photos 39, 40, 41 and 42: Weston Reservoir -usually I go past a line of cars from people who park and walk their dogs in this area. So far, so good, no trouble with any dogs.

Photos 43 and 44: These are sort of 2 extremes with houses here, one where it appears it is a show house (click here for info). Personally, I think the house is more attractive than the photo suggests. Also pictured is my "haunted house". It's been on the market for ages -and looks very run down! Even so, since it is in Weston, it's probably worth quite a bit.

Photo 45: Weston Fire station where I am kindly given permission to park. My car is hidden by the car going by, and you can just make out a fire engine in front of the station.
